Hunger is a Lions Clubs International Global Cause and College Station Noon has committed to helping wherever it can. From annual food drives to volunteering at local food banks and pantries to Meals On Wheels service, where there is a need, there is a College Station Noon Lion.
For this club year, College Station Noon volunteers each month to help at the Brazos Valley Food Bank. This began as the “Backpack” program, as it is called, and is aimed at helping food insecure families over weekends during the school year. This program provides nutritious, easy-to-prepare food for low-income children to take home on weekends and school holidays. The BVFB partners with local ISDs to coordinate enrolling children in the program. Backpacks are discreetly distributed each week. And College Station Noon volunteers to fill bags with food that will go into those backpacks. According to BVFB, the program has had a profound impact on reducing childhood hunger throughout the Brazos Valley.
